Ensemble SineQuaNon Berlin – Rethinking Chamber Music

As part of our collaboration with the Foundation for Education, Science & Culture (EBWK) and the Associazione Espressione d’Arte APS, we are supporting Ensemble SineQuaNon Berlin in the areas of communications, public relations and participant management for their 2025 concert series.

Classical Music with Vision and Integrity

SineQuaNon Berlin is a young, internationally composed ensemble that not only performs chamber music but reimagines it. The ensemble stands for a modern ensemble culture centered around equal collaboration, artistic openness, and a curiosity for innovative programming. In varying line-ups – from its core as a string trio to chamber orchestra formations – SineQuaNon Berlin combines classical repertoire with contemporary music, unconventional soundscapes, and interdisciplinary approaches.

What sets the ensemble apart is its flexible artistic concept: rather than fixed hierarchies, the musicians work as equals. Pieces are developed and interpreted collectively – with a strong sense of individuality and shared responsibility. The ensemble regularly collaborates with internationally renowned soloists such as Cyprien Katsaris, Iskandar Widjaja, Federico Mondelci and Massimo Guidetti. Their repertoire spans from classical chamber works to film music and commissioned compositions written specifically for the ensemble.

Upcoming Concerts at Konzerthaus Berlin

May 30, 2025: “Sound Colors and Poetry” – Ensemble SineQuaNon Berlin with Star Pianist Cyprien Katsaris Interpreting Robert Schumann

With the concert “Sound Colors and Poetry”, SineQuaNon Berlin and world-renowned pianist Cyprien Katsaris explore the work of Robert Schumann. At the heart of the program is the question of how romantic soundscapes can intertwine with modern ensemble aesthetics. The evening features works from various phases of Schumann’s creative life, creating a dramaturgically rich sonic journey that spans from intimate lyricism to orchestral drama.

Katsaris – who has performed as a soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and the Philadelphia Orchestra – brings his unmistakable expressiveness to the ensemble, offering a chamber music experience of remarkable depth and sensitivity.

The program:

  • Kinderszenen, Op. 15 (solo piano)
  • Violin Sonata No. 1 in A minor, Op. 105
  • Märchenbilder, Op. 113 (viola & piano)
  • Fantasiestücke, Op. 73 (cello & piano)
  • Piano Quartet in E-flat major, Op. 47

This selection not only offers deep insight into Schumann’s poetic sound world but also showcases the individual strengths of each ensemble member in various constellations – culminating in the expansive piano quartet that closes the evening. Tickets available here!

June 15, 2025: “Neapolitan Bohemian Rhapsody” – Ensemble SineQuaNon Berlin with Guest Pianist Massimo Guidetti

The next concert, “Neapolitan Bohemian Rhapsody”, is dedicated to late-Romantic piano chamber music from Italy and Central Europe. The program features two rarely performed yet deeply expressive piano quintets: the Piano Quintet in G major by Giuseppe Martucci and the celebrated Piano Quintet in A major, Op. 81, by Antonín Dvořák.

Italian pianist Massimo Guidetti joins as the guest soloist, known for his Mediterranean sonic poetry, emotional depth, and technical brilliance. Martucci’s work – a milestone of Italian chamber music around 1900 – blends symphonic structure with musical lightness and is seldom heard in concert halls. Dvořák’s quintet, by contrast, is one of the most significant works of the Romantic repertoire, known for its folkloric vibrancy, formal clarity, and profound emotionality.

The program:

  • Giuseppe Martucci: Piano Quintet in G major, Op. posth.
  • Antonín Dvořák: Piano Quintet in A major, Op. 81

With this concert, SineQuaNon Berlin unites two complementary sound worlds: Mediterranean longing and Central European folk tradition. Tickets available here!
