Flying Bach – A Unique Fusion of Classical Music and Urban Dance
For over a decade, Flying Bach has captivated international audiences, proving that Johann Sebastian Bach and breakdancing harmonize perfectly. The award-winning show by the Flying Steps merges high culture with urban dance artistry and has already fascinated over 1 million spectators in more than 42 countries. It was honored with the prestigious ECHO Klassik Special Award (now OPUS Klassik) and is considered one of the most successful crossover productions worldwide.
The concept is unique: breakdancing meets Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier, blended with contemporary dance elements. Seven dancers train for their big performance—conflict, struggle, disappointment, and joy are reflected in their movements. When a mysterious woman enters the room, the tension escalates: breakdancing meets contemporary dance, man meets woman, desire meets rejection, arrogance meets curiosity.
With powerful head spins, dynamic power moves, and graceful pirouettes, the dancers bring Bach’s rhythmic structure and emotional depth to life on stage. The show makes it tangible how universal and timeless his compositions are—and how vividly they can be reinterpreted through the language of urban dance.
